I travel a lot and to fit in one of my favorite pastimes of running I locate races in the destination so I gain a better perspective of the area.
I couldn’t have been luckier when I was in Vancouver August 2009 and came upon the Bowen Island 10 K. Since it was on an island the first challenge is to understand how to get there. The race website was so helpful and provided information on how to catch the various boats to the island. On arrival to Bowen I was just delighted - they had everything set up, even a place that I could leave my bag (change of clothes). Actually this is something you should promote so people know they have a place to store their clothes during the race and can change afterward so they can stay on the island for the afternoon.
The course was fun - I don’t get to run off road much and it was fantastic. The hills add a bit of a challenge but still any type of runner could finish.
The people who were working were so kind. Then festival (Bowfest) afterward is excellent planning. Most races, after you finish, you just go home but with this race the festival makes it a full day experience.
Thanks
